Submarine HMS Ultor, Great Britain, World War II, 1: 350, Editions Atlas
HMS Ultor (P53) was a Royal Navy U-class submarine built by Vickers-Armstrong at Barrow-in-Furness. Launched in 1942 During World War II, the Ultor operated in the Mediterranean Sea, where it sank the French ship Penerf, the Italian auxiliary minesweeper No.92 Tullio, the Italian merchant Valfiorita, the Italian torpedo boat Lince, the German merchant Aversa the sailboat German Paule, German firefighter FCi 01, German patrol boat SG-11, German tug Cebre, German oil tankers Felix 1 and Tempo 3, German auxiliary patrol boat Vinotra III and German auxiliary submarine hunter UJ 2211 / Hardy. The Ultor also sank nine sailing ships in the Mediterranean.
In October 1943, when the Aversa sank, the Ultor had fired 68 torpedoes, of which 32 were successful, the highest percentage of accurate shots fired by any submarine commander up to that time. The submarine was under the command of George Hunt.
The Ultor survived the war and returned to HMS Dolphin's coastal establishment, Gosport, then joined the 6th Flotilla at Blyth. When Blyth closed, the Ultor headed for Rothesay with the tank ship HMS Cyclops. It was scrapped at Briton Ferry in January 1946.
